2020 Joy in the Middle Mourvèdre
Joy in the Middle is named after our middle sister, Erin Joy Nenow. Erin is the self-described “black sheep” of the family, yet is one of the kindest and most loving souls you’ll ever meet. In working with Mourvèdre, its resilience, perseverance, and unique nature was a perfect parallel between the wine and the person.
The Rhône movement on the central coast has been in full swing for over a decade now in Paso Robles, and Mourvèdre is the newest driving force. Boutique producers in the area are making artfully crafted single varietal Mourvèdres, a grape typically made as a utility in blending for mid palate and overall textural sheen. To create a stand alone version of Mourvèdre, we fermented the grapes 100% whole cluster inside 500L French oak puncheons, adding a pandora’s box of spices and body to an already fruitfully forward variety of grape.
